SHARE about your books
and GET CREDIT toward
the GREAT ESCAPE!
REQUIREMENTS:
- You must read the required amount of books for each level and share about each book you have read in order to earn credit for that book.
- Create a Book Review (NOT a summary) about each book you read by downloading the template connected to this link: Book Review Template. You will need to download the document to your laptop and will then be able to make changes. If you aren't able to download this (your laptop needs to be updated!) you can view the document here and create your own in Pages: View Only Book Review. Feel free to hand write it or to use a different format, just be sure to get all the different parts in there: 1.Sneak Peek hook to interest a potential reader, 2. Your Opinion about what you liked or didn't like about the book, 3. Recommendations where you compare this book to others similar, 4. a brief Overview of the setting and plot but NO SPOILERS!!, and 5. a few creative images that match the theme or main characters of the book.
- Create a Book Trailer
for at least one of your favorite books you reviewed (you will need to
complete 2 to reach the second level and 3 to reach the top level). The
point of a book trailer is to entice others to want to read the book.
Think of it as an advertisement for a whole awesome new world you
discovered and enjoyed within the pages of the book. Check out these
websites for tips and examples: Book Trailer Tips and Examples,
More Examples and Tools - Be creative! Act out scenes yourself, "interview" the main character, create a collage, use photography or your own art work, just DO NOT plagiarize other artists work or take images from the book's actual cover or movie. Be sure to give credit for any photos, music or images you use that you did not create yourself.
- Once you have created your trailer, be sure to follow these specific directions in order to share it with Ms. Fraser and the TMS community:
1. Go into iMovie
2. Choose New Trailer
3. Choose Template or create your own
4. Create your Book Trailer
5. When it's finished (make sure you save it!), choose Share in the File Menu.
6. Choose Email
7. When prompted, (this will take several minutes) Email to fraserk@sad44.org
8. Ms. Fraser will put this on the Telstar Learning Commons Youtube page.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- How do I share? You complete a book, create a book review following the template and then give it to our ELA teacher. She may ask you to share it with the class too. This is a great way for other kids to learn about a great book.
- Who will see my review? Other kids your age will get a chance to see what you wrote and what you thought about the book, because we will be keeping a binder of the reviews in the library for kids tolook through when they need a new book to read. You might even decide to share your review at a Stars assembly.
- How do I know I've gotten credit?Your ELA teacher will read it, talk about the book with you and then sign your log sheet. She will then pass on your review to Mrs. Fraser to keep in the library.
- How can I keep track of all the books I've read and earned credit for? Your ELA teacher will be giving you a book log. You should write down all the books you read and get signatures from your teacher when you share each book.
